English Garden Fruits & Flowers

The original watercolour paintings in this gallery, were painted to commission, or specifically for exhibition. Whilst most works have been purchased by Societies, Institutes or Collectors, some are still available to own.

All subjects are drawn carefully to life size and are painted in Winsor and Newton lightfast paints, on high quality hot pressed watercolour paper by Arches. Through her detailed research and careful study and observation of the plant subjects shown, several have formed the basis for Hazel’s successful Botanical art courses.

English Garden Favourites showcases 35 English garden plants selected by Alexis Datta, former Head Gardener at Sissinghurst Castle Garden. This personal project to draw and paint these special plants has taken many years to complete and will open for exhibition at the Stark Gallery Canterbury on April 1st 2017. A beautifully printed catalogue is available with 14 colour plates and 17 graphite drawings.

A Sissinghurst Flora is a new National Trust publication on the unique Sissinghurst Castle Garden. It is a guide to its history and a tour of its garden ‘rooms’, developed at Sissinghurst by Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicholson in the 1930’s. Hazel has painted 30 of the most iconic plants from the 11 individual gardens, as selected by Head Gardener Troy Scott-Smith. It will be published in spring 2018 in large format hardback. All original watercolours are for sale and will be exhibited, together with graphite drawings and worksheets, after publication.

Hazel welcomes enquiries about these and all her paintings.
